WHAT IS AN OTC®?
The Orthopaedic Technologist Certified (OTC®) are those individuals that have demonstrated the knowledge and skills needed to work as an Orthopaedic Technologist Certified and who have passed the National Board for Certification of Orthopaedic Technologists Certification Examination.
The Orthopaedic Technologist Certified is specially trained as an extension of the Orthopaedic Surgeon and assists in the treatment of the Orthopaedic Patient.
The Orthopaedic Technologist Certified is an expert in the application of plaster and synthetic casting and splinting. The Orthopaedic Technologis Certifed is responsible for instructing the patients of proper care of the casts and splints. The Orthopaedic Technologist Certified also has the skills and knowledge needed to remove a cast safely and is able to erect all forms of skin and skeletal traction.
The Orthopaedic Technologist Certified has a working knowledge of aseptic techniques, and is able to prepare for surgical procedures, assembling and preparing equipment to the specifications of the Orthopaedic Surgeon, the Orthopaedic Technologist Certified may act as first assistant in the operating room depending on hospital policies.
The Orthopaedic Technologist Certified is able to fit and adjust various orthopaedic appliances, such as walkers, crutches, braces, etc. as well as giving patient instructions.
The OTC® examination consists of 165 multiple choice questions with four (4) choices, and up to 3 hours is allowed to complete the examination. Fifteen of these questions are included for research purposes only. The research questions are not identified; therefore, answer all questions to the best of your ability. Examination results will be based only on the 150 scored questions on the examination.
The OTC® Examinations are given any business day during the Months of February, June, August and November

IF YOUR APPLICATION IS RECEIVED IN OUR OFFICE AFTER 12:00 NOON EASTERN STANDARD TIME ON THE LAST DATE FOR “EARLY REGISTRATION” FOR THE MONTH THAT YOU ARE REGISTERING FOR, YOU MUST HAVE ALREADY ENCLOSED AN ADDITIONAL $100.00 LATE FEE, OR YOUR APPLICATION WILL BE HELD UNTIL THE LATE FEE IS PAID.
We strongly recommend that that you send your application via USPS Express Overnight Mail ONLY IF you plan on MAILING YOUR APPLICATION TO ARRIVE ON THE LAST EARLY REGISTRATION DAY.
APPLICATIONS ARE ACCEPTED UP UNTIL THE 22ND DAY OF THE MONTH BEFORE THE EXAMS ARE GIVEN WITH THE LATE FEE PAID.
THE FOLLOWING DATES REPRESENT THE LAST DAY THAT THE NBCOT CAN FILE YOUR APPLICATION WITH SMT/IQT TESTING FOR THE MONTHS WE OFFER THE EXAMINATIONS.

After Pre-Registration ends a $100.00 Late Fee will Be Charged. Application and Late Fees must be paid by Corporate Check, Money Order, Credit Cards, Bank Check Only - NO PERSONAL CHCECKS ARE ACCEPTED.
